College Football Map: Part III

Newest Version Here

Here is an alternate version, although at this point I am not sure what is more accurate. Big props to r/CFB which weighed in with some good knowledge and advice on the map. I did also use Common Census to influence my decisions where I was unsure, but did not rely too heavily on it. Most of the changes were in Upper Michigan, Dakotas and Montana, Florida, Texas, Georgia and NC.

The major change is the inclusion of some FCS teams. I used attendance data to include the most popular teams in FCS (since including them all would be insane and would clutter the map up). The FCS teams included are: Montana, Montana State, North Dakota State, Georgia Southern, Delaware, Jackson State, Jacksonville State, and Old Dominion. Also added were FCS schools set to join FBS in the coming years. That includes: UMass, Texas State, and UTSA.

Final thing is that I swapped in some better logos in some places. SDSU, UNLV and Utah State get their athletic logos in there instead of the school logo, and UWashington got their more traditional W logo, which I guess is preferred by the fan base. Also, Army didn't actually have their logo on the previous map (it was on a covered layer in the editable file). There might be some other logo swaps I forgot about.

I don't think I'll be making anymore edits to the map.

Edit: Added Temple, it seems like I had totally forgotten about them. My bad.

  2. GT isn't supposed to be occupying all of Atlanta. It isn't supposed to be a circle around the city. Atlanta is supposed to be split more or less. So the western half (or a little bit more) is GT, from there, it is extended west (in the opposite direction of Athens) until it hits the border.

  4. Cincinnati fanbase size needs to be a lot smaller. Ohio State reaches strong just right outside of Cincy.

  5. I think that Miami is INCREDIBLY overrepresented on your map of Florida. If anything, the Gator and Seminole territory need to extend well south of where they are. It's not until you get to Ft. Lauderdale that Miami fans begin to match or outnumber Gator and Noles fans. The Gators have a somewhat stronger presence than the Noles extending down to the West Palm/Boca area (where, as I said, both the Noles and Gator fans outnumber Canes fans).

    1. I would argue that Florida is bigger in South Fl than Miami...but YOU are correct in saying that FSU is bigger than Miami too.

Miami deserves to be a small spec. Noles and Gators both outnumber Canes at the very least 10:1

  6. I appreciate your efforts, but good luck getting Michigan right. Except for the actual towns of Ann Arbor and East Lansing there's really no geographical rhyme or reason to fandom here.

  8. Please add Western Carolina to the Western Part of North Carolina... Having Appalachian State cover the entire western part of NC is a slap in the face, especially to Western Carolina fans... Please add the Catamounts!

  11. The largest amount of FL gators live in BROWARD COUNTY (1 county north of Miami-Dade). It has the biggest Alumni association.

I currently live in North Miami. At the stores here, we sell Gator stuff...not canes. If any store carries any cane gear, it's 60/40 gators at best.

Fort Myers is another big gator town. I am not sure why the nature coast is suddenly noles either.

Florida Graduates more per year than FSU and Miami put together! That is why there are more gators in FL. Plus, Miami is a private school that really isn't liked by even Miami-Dade county!

  12. It is truly insane that you have 50 miles from Gainesville being Noles Turf!!!

Florida just has so many more fans. If you actually go to any place there, people have Gator flags everywhere! Nothing noles period!

    1. I think if you just download the file that is up, that's as high quality as it can get. I did not shrink it to fit on the website. If you blew it up any bigger that what it is, you would start to get pixelation.

  17. As an NDSU fan I love the fact that you have NDSU covering all of North and South Dakota but it is by no means accurate. I would give the top left corner of North Dakota to the University of North Dakota. As for South Dakota, I could not tell you who they are rooting for but I defiantly know that it is not NDSU...probably more Nebraska.
